We have lots of baby animals at Cantref at the moment. We have 2 litters of baby rabbits in our pet barn and we are expecting baby guinea pigs soon. On the farm we have lots of cute fluffy lambs. You can see our newest arrivals in the Big animal barn and the older lambs are out in the fields enjoying a run around with their friends. If you time your visit to the lambing barn right you might even be lucky enough to see a lamb being born!
This morning our 1st lambs of 2013 were born. Not 1, not 2 but 3 baby lambs, yes our 1st arrivals were a healthy set of triplets. 1 boy and 2 girls. They were followed half an hour later by a set of big twin boys. We have another ewe who is expecting twins looking like she is going to give birth before the end of the day too. So lambing has well and truly started!
February Half Term
February is a busy time on the farm. This is the start of our lambing season, Colin and Ken the farmers will be busy checking the sheep day and night as we await the arrival of our newborn lambs. We can't wait to hear the bleating of the newborn lambs and their mothers chatting in their pens and see the little gangs of lambs playing together in the fields as they get old enough to live outside.
In our pet barn Lola's gorgeous fluffy baby rabbits are growing up fast and are ready to be weaned. It is really cute to see them all cuddled up together in a heap in their enclosure or bouncing around when it is play-time!
Lola the French Lop Rabbit has just had a litter of babies. We are all excitedly waiting for them to come out of their nest. We think there might be 6 little babies! Photos to follow when they come out to play.
