Trekking

Cantref Riding Centre holds the exclusive licence for Pony Treks to the main peaks of the Brecon Beacons.

As a family-run establishment with over 45 years of experience, we are approved by the Wales Trekking and Riding Association, The Adventure Activities Licencing Authority, Pony Club, and licensed by Powys County Council.

Your countryside ride

We are fortunate to offer access to some of the world's most stunning riding countryside. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Brecon Beacons National Park from the unique perspective of the saddle.

We cater to riders of all ages and skill levels, with a variety of rides available. Our well-trained horses and ponies come in diverse shapes and sizes, supported by a team of friendly and knowledgeable staff dedicated to ensuring your pony trek experience is safe and enjoyable.

Pony treks

Our Pony Treks vary from Full Day and Half Day rides to Hour-long sessions and 20-minute introductions, each including a demonstration and basic instruction.

Explore the Brecon Beacons on our Brecon Beacons Explorer Ride and Welsh Pony Trail Ride, which traverse country lanes and ascend mountains, offering stunning views of the Welsh Countryside.

These rides cater to complete beginners, novices, and experienced riders aged 11 and up. During winter, routes follow country lanes and bridle paths for safety.

Red kite ride

If you're seeking a family-friendly or shorter horse ride, our Red Kite Ride is an excellent choice. Suitable for ages 6 and up, this ride follows scenic farm tracks and fields, offering picturesque views of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. Please note, the Red Kite Ride maintains a slower pace, making it ideal for beginners.

Our Introduction to Riding program welcomes riders from age 4 and typically takes place in our Outdoor Riding arena. Parents can enjoy a scenic outdoor viewing area adjacent to our riding school, providing a perfect backdrop of the Brecon Beacons for memorable photo opportunities of your Cantref adventure.

Pony days

Cantref also provides "Own a Pony Day" experiences on selected dates during local school holidays, an ideal gift for any horse-loving child.

Participants spend the day learning horse care, grooming, tacking up, riding, and engaging in games. Each child receives a photo certificate to cherish as a memento of their enjoyable day with the horses and ponies at Cantref.
