Discover Our Green Practices
At Cantref Adventure Farm, we are committed to protecting the environment and ensuring that our farm operates in harmony with nature. Our sustainability initiatives are focused on preserving our land, minimising waste, and reducing our carbon footprint through the use of renewable energy. Learn more about our key efforts below:
Tree Planting and Land Management
Cantref Adventure Farm is dedicated to enhancing biodiversity and conserving our natural environment. Over the years, we’ve planted over 7,000 native trees across the farm to create new habitats for wildlife, combat climate change, and promote carbon sequestration. Our wildflower meadows are another important feature, designed to attract pollinators and support local ecosystems. We also maintain a woodland nature reserve, which provides a sanctuary for a variety of species while offering a peaceful space for visitors to explore and learn about conservation. Our approach to land management focuses on low-impact farming, ensuring that we care for the land while producing feed for our animals, such as hay, silage, and barley, directly on the farm.
Waste Disposal and Recycling
At Cantref, we strive to minimise waste and encourage recycling throughout the farm. All waste produced on-site is carefully sorted, and we have established dedicated recycling stations to help visitors dispose of their waste responsibly. Whether you’re visiting for the day or staying in our on-site accommodation, you’ll find clear signage guiding you on how to recycle correctly. In addition to our visitor-focused efforts, we also manage farm waste sustainably, repurposing organic material as compost to enrich our soil. This not only reduces the amount of waste sent to landfill but also supports our low-impact farming efforts by promoting healthy, nutrient-rich soil for crop production.
Greener Energy
As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, Cantref Adventure Farm has made significant investments in renewable energy. We currently operate 174 solar panels, which generate a large portion of the electricity used across the farm. To further enhance our energy efficiency, we are adding solar batteries to store excess energy, with the goal of becoming fully self-sufficient. Our ground source heat pump provides environmentally friendly heating and hot water for the farm, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. Additionally, we use low-energy light bulbs and carefully control our lighting to maintain the integrity of our location within a designated dark skies area. We also use a bore hole for all our water supplies. At Cantref we have an electric cart to transport items such as laundry and cleaning materials around the site. By harnessing greener energy, we are reducing our carbon footprint while supporting a sustainable future for the farm.
